Three States of Matter
The term "States of Matter" refers to the different types of matter. Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. Mass is the measure of how much material makes up an object. There are three forms of matter: Solids, Liquids, and Gases. Ice is solid because it has its own shape. Water is a liquid because it takes the shape of the container that holds it. We can pour a liquid out. Gases like steam, air, and carbon dioxide are colorless and take the shape their containers.
Water is a special because it can be changed from a solid, to a liquid, then to a gas. When water freezes it becomes a solid...ice. Melt the ice and it becomes a liquid...water. Boil the water and it turns in the steam or water vapor...a gas.
